Hi!

Welcome to our family blog. We share lots of posts here, and you can also follow along over there:

The Magic of Kew

The Magic of Kew

Over the weekend we took our May photo walk in famous Kew Gardens. It was warm and sunny, and we had a lovely group made up of old Makelight friends and some brand new photographers too. It was such a relaxing day!

Kew is an enormous and beloved botanical garden home to the world's largest collection of living plants. It was established in 1840 by the Victorians who loved to collect!

What I always think is amazing about Kew is how no matter what time of year you go, there is always something in bloom. This weekend it was the Rhododendrons, Azaleas and the first gorgeous roses.  We also spotted Lilac, Cow Parsley, Irises and Wisteria (still hanging on around the gift shop!)

I loved our time in the Palm House - the name of the still standing dreamy tropical paradise constructed by the Victorians to hold their vast collection of palms from around the world. The iconic iron and glass structure is hot and humid but perfect for photographs: the sunlight filters through glass panes and green leaves to create colourful and evocative images.

Below you can find a selection of photos from the day! If you decide to go on your own, be sure to take some time to explore the area surrounding Kew Green. There's a charming old church, the river bank is nearby and there are stretches of darling little houses with bright and colour-filled front gardens. There's usually a cricket match happening on the green - it's such a perfect atmosphere, especially in Summer! So take a moment to linger in the village before stepping into Kew Gardens.

If you love our Makelight photo walks then our upcoming Makelight Retreat this September could also be perfect for you. It's a whole creative weekend in the English countryside - so idyllic! There are still a few spots left, so take a quick look.

Our next photo walk will be a special Makelight Midsummer Evening meetup in Regent's Park on Tuesday the 21st of June.
