Makelight Travels : Adventures in San Francisco
Hello! Stef and I are just back from a super exciting week in San Francisco. I have visited this amazing city many times before but it was the first time we could go together, so it really was an extra special trip.
Our trip was super inspiring because we got to spend time with some great people and talk about some big stuff. My head is super full and I think I'm going to need to go on some extra long runs over the come week to process it all. But aside from the big conversations it was also great to be in a different place for a week. I love exploring places where you want to stop and take photographs at every turn. Where you feel like you are literally breathing in inspiration and new things and ideas. Even the parts of San Francisco I've been to on every visit still felt fresh and exciting.
And then there's the light. For me there is nothing better than Californian light. It just feels me with so much joy. I first fell in love with this light nearly 20 years ago and I have never found light that I love and enjoy more. It really made me smile when I met up with my lovely friend Alix while we were there and as I was getting excited about the Californian light she was telling me how much she adored the light in the UK! I love how light can really touch and inspire us.
While we were away I enjoyed taking lots of images with my iPhone 6s while we were out and about. I love how handy it is for travel. It's just there with you in your pocket and it really does take some great images. My first love of photography came from taking images with my Dad on family holidays. Back then I was limited to a roll of 24 film or 36 if I was lucky. Now I have the limitless freedom to take as many images as I want and can really indulge in taking images of buildings, colours, textures, people, signs and so much more.
I also got to finally visit Rare Device, which has been on my list for years. It was just as wonderful as I thought it would be and I literally wanted to bring home the whole shop. And I loved this new installation 'Chroma' by Lisa Solomon and Christine Buckton Tilman.
And we popped into my lovely friend Kim's new Austin Press studio. As gorgeous as I knew it would be.
And I spy my book!
Thank you San Francisco for being so wonderful. We'll be back again next year....with the children! xo (I may already be planning...!)
