Today makers have an amazing opportunity to reach people all over the world and share both their creations and the stories behind them. I love to see studio tables, boxes of craft equipment and the people behind the beautiful products they create. Social media and blogs enable us to access these stories, so we can really connect with the makers and their crafts. I have discovered so many new makers on Instagram and Pinterest and I found most of the makers in my book this way.
What is important for me is not only what these talented people are making but how they are sharing their stories and products visually. We are bombarded by so much content that it can be so easy to miss beautiful things and interesting people if the images are not good enough.
Last year I taught a special Photography Workshop for Makers to teach makers how to create beautiful images that tell their stories and help promote and sell their work. It was such a wonderful and inspiring day and the studio was full of wonderful creations that my students had brought with them to photograph.
If you are a maker, learning to use your camera, whether that's a smartphone, a dSLR or anything in between, means you can share images that really capture your maker story and show the world how wonderful your creations are.
On Friday I am running this workshop again in my London studio. There are a few places left if you would like to join us. But if you can't make it to London I am running the workshop online with a two week e-course that you can take from wherever you are in the world.
I would love to see you at my studio next Friday or on the online course on February 22nd.
Happy Making. xo
