For the past few years I have chosen a word at the start of the year as a focus to follow throughout the year. I love to do Susannah Conway's beautiful booklet to help find my word.
Last year my word was content. It really helped to keep me grounded during some tricky times. My word encouraged me to stop, take a moment and realise just how much I had to be content about right now. Juggling family life and work life is always going to be challenging and 2014 was perhaps the toughest year of juggling yet, which I didn't expect at the beginning of the year. But I got through it, we all survived and I am sure I'm a better mother, wife and writer/photographer/tutor for it.
This year the word I have chosen is make. I want this year to be full of creativity and making. More time offline and more time making. Last year I got all out of sync, mainly due to writing a book, which was a very good reason indeed. But I want to get some creative balance back, especially with what I do with my children and for our home.
Making and makers is also the focus of my book and with that being published in April, it seems even more appropriate to choose a word and focus that celebrates that. It's a lifelong dream to have a book published, so it's going to be a pretty big part of my 2015.
In addition to make being a focus for creativity I also have an idea to use it as a prompt to make time (for different things), make friends (or time for friends), make fun (spontaneous fun), make food (new dishes, cooking with my children).... and eight more.
Have you chosen a word for 2015? I'd love to hear about hopes and focus for the year ahead. xo
